For a second there I thought I was watching a reboot of the first season of Soul Land with better graphics lol

douluo • 2 years ago

yeah it did appear quite Soul Landish lol.

2hands • 2 years ago

for me, reading your posts is an integral part of my Saturday routine, wouldn't be the same soul land without your and others insights. Thank you!

douluo • 2 years ago

I'm undeservedly flattered. Thanks! lol

Alexander Kaizer7 • 2 years ago

hey dude which novel title i should continue after finishing this one that is after the death of bibi dong? all i find is the story of TS's daughter and son which are nothing compared to TS.

douluo • 2 years ago

Yeah that was a big WTF to me too LOL. I'm afraid I share Dase's frustration with the fact that the author basically ended the Shrek story line with DD1, rather abruptly too. However, DD2.5 is more TS centric and does have appearances from many of the cast members in DD1, so I'd recommend that one. I only got part way through, not because it's bad, but rather I had a hard time visualizing the space/time they now occupy and lost interest since they're already divine/god level. I have to admit, the story of TS/Shrek's youth to adulthood is the main event for me. Maybe I'll go back to it at some point though idk..

I've only read DD1 though so Dase and YT Addict will have WAY better recs on the sequels.

Dase • 2 years ago

Yeah, I stopped reading after a few chapters of Douluo Daluo 2 ,Alexander Kaizer7 if you want the story of just Tang San then Douluo Daluo 5 better known as "Rebirth of Tang San" is the one for you, it is written about Tang San BUT, sadly the novels in between Douluo Daluo and Douluo Daluo 5 contains small bits of contents about Tang San and the reasons why Tang San did what he did in Douluo Daluo 5, so if you read it without reading the others, you might (or might not) get a little confused. If you do get confused or have questions, best way is to go to Soul Land's fandom website, it should have all the answers you need

But as @Douluo mentioned, Youtube Addict is the person to ask about the novels, since they read the Soul Land novels more than @Douluo and me put together lol, which reminds me, I havent seen them for a while now (a week on internet is an eternity)

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

Did I sense that my presence has been missed? šŸ˜‰

Thanks for directing new fans to me. Iā€™m happy to pass my enthusiasm and fervour on DD to anyone who would like to know more!

But one word of caution: Iā€™m highly biased! Those who knew me for a while by now know that Iā€™m allergic to bunnies! šŸ¤

Dase • 2 years ago

Yeah was wondering where the other Tang San profile picture went to, did you take a break until episode 203 so the duration will be back to normal? :)

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

Please pick that up again! It wonā€™t take you long. DD2.5 is literally a quarter of the length of DD. Then we can rant and ramble about it together!

Zhang Qiling • 2 years ago

I also enjoyed their young versions who mostly focused on training in the academy, goofing around, and growing closer to each other part more. The latest gods, angels, trials, too many mentally ill women...etc including episodes are kinda giving me a headache. I'm getting a bit bored now, especially while watching Martial Soul Hall and Bibidong's daughter parts. What made me binge watch till this episode was the bond between the seven Shrek devils, I love seeing them together and that's about it.

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

My personal preference: DD is still the best because I like the MC Tang San. As you said, the others talk about his son, daughter and grandson.

Iā€™d advise you to skip DD2 if you really like Tang San because he turns into a jackass in the second sequel!

If youā€™d like to continue on the DD series, you should go for the shorter ones: DD2.5 and DD3.5. The author kinda half-redeemed his MC of all the MCs: Tang San, in those two stories. Moreover they are just a fraction of the length of most Chinese fictional novels but of course, the main prerequisite is that you must be invested with the characters from DD (Soul Land) as they are not the most well-written compared to other novels. You will get frustrated with ā€œbugsā€ infestation in his novels.

Whatever you do, do NOT read DD4 (thatā€™s about his grandson). Itā€™s almost 1800 chapters long and as a comparison, DD itself is only 300+ chapters. Most of all, the story is a complete train wreck! Stay away, youā€™ve been warned!

following the first link you posted, this is a 15 min video on adverts + more for that show
www .youtube. com /watch?v=i30K2b72cGU

Dase • 2 years ago

That's interesting, it's also being advertised the same way Soul Land 2 is on vqq. There are three companies that are producing it, China South Angel, Tencent Penguin Pictures and Xuanshi Tangmen, the donghua creation and development is handled by Shenmen Entertainment.

Xuanshi Tangmen is actually Tang Jia San Shao's company (the author) no wonder it is being promoted so much, it is their first direct donghua production, hmm wonder if Shenmen studio is also his lol cant find any information about it

vio • 2 years ago

first donghua production? I thought soul land 1 was.

Dase • 2 years ago

No no I mean the author's own production company's first donghua production
Soul Land one is the authors first donghua, I think (he has a few going at the moment) but it wasnt his production company that was involved

vio • 2 years ago

That second link looked like it hinted at BL the way they were staring into each others eyes.

Dase • 2 years ago

I know..... which is why I didnt comment much about the second one LOL
Although it will be surprising given that Soul Land's author doesnt usually go into BL themes

vio • 2 years ago

He/she may be experimenting with new idea's in their stories and I bet you got your fingers crossed for it too lol

Dase • 2 years ago

lol no, unless the story is compelling enough like Mo Dao Zu Shi I wont watch it, I prefer handsome guys with pretty girls, or pretty girl with lot's of handsome guys :D

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

But MDZS is a BL writer, isnā€™t she? Lots of saint-like handsome guys falling for devil-like handsome guys moments. lol

Btw, I recently started watching Shao Nian Ge Xing (The Great Journey of Teenagers) from Bilibili. Yess, what a horrible title! It popped out when I was searching for Fanren. At first I thought itā€™s a decent story, three dudes going on adventures: a prince in disguised, a monk and a dimwit. Then my curiosity got the better of me, I started reading the novel with Google translate.

What a bummer! Iā€™ve never felt so betrayed before reading a novel! This author is worse than TJSS! At least TJSS is creative and original with his world building. This author, (I canā€™t even recall his name) was such a letdown! I should have stuck to the ā€œsafeā€ list that you gave me!

When I finished reading the novel, the first thing I felt was ā€” damn, this author doesnā€™t even like his MC! Why is the supporting character more prominent than the MC? But that was also how I felt when I read DD the first time. I thought, TJSS hated XW so much that he had to kill her off in such early stage of the novel. But of course, we all knew the truth behind it now. He literally modelled XW after his wife and his wife was such a character: impulsive and sacrificial.

Back to my ranting, I later found out that this author literally switched his MC to pander to his fans. They prefer the prince while he prefers the dimwit, so the prince it is then! But his subconscious preference still betrayed him. It totally explains all the inconsistencies and incoherence with the focus and highlights (or the lack thereof), that he gave his MC. I canā€™t help but to shake my head in disbelief. How spineless can the Chinese writers be?

Now, the donghua producers are fortunately (or unfortunately) marketing it as ā€œmulti-MCsā€ story in order to offset the imbalance of the characters.

Iā€™m just curious, whatā€™s your take on a multi-MCs novel? As for me, I just donā€™t feel invested in a story when I canā€™t even root for a main protagonist. Well unless itā€™s a BL novel, then you have two persons to root for! But then again, BL novels can be quite misogynistic. I guess the best is still some harmless harem stories, as a fictional escape from our mostly monogamous society.

Dase • 2 years ago

By the way one of the worse thing the author did with Shao Nian Ge Xing was that readers thought it was BL novel, they thought
Xiao Se would end up with Lei Wujie BUT he ends up with Sikong Qianluo, a girl lol For everyone it was a WTF moment

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

Donā€™t think you need to put the spoiler tag. Those who watch Shao Nian Ge Xing will probably not watch DD. šŸ˜‰ The former has far too few romance arcs. The Sanwu fans are for sure not interested.

Actually in the donghua, Xiao Se was shipped with the lilā€™ monk by fans. In Season 1, they did the storyline in such a way that the two characters complement and complete each other. They both are sarcastic, shrewd and cunning. Itā€™s quite fun to watch their banter and camaraderie. But like you said they earned themselves quite some cursing and complaints with their WTF moment trying to forcefully pair Qian Luo with Xiao Se.

Iā€™m completely convinced that the author just hates Xiao Se otherwise I canā€™t think of any reasons why he would pair his main protagonist with a spoilt, naive and vacuous girl. Sheā€™s Xiao Wu multiplied by a factor of 10.

Iā€™m curious, where did you stop in the novel? I was literally skipping through all the chapters with misc characters. So pointless and does not bring anything to the plot line and development. All these are done at the expense of the MC. He is by far the most underdeveloped and under-utilised MC Iā€™ve ever read.

Dase • 2 years ago

lol I cant remember where I stopped but I think I am sure I didnt go past 10 chapters, a lot of BL fans were surely disappointed, and yes many female readers as well, not those guys pretending to be females on weibo :P

I put spoiler tags in case someone gets upset, I dont want any drama lol

OfficialDrixMalone • 2 years ago

I appreciate you putting spoiler tags so please don't listen to @youYoutube Addict lol, I also have watched a little of Shao Nian Ge Xing and many more!! So I'd be irritated seeing spoilers in another donghua that has no reason being there, so thank you for your consideration.

Dase • 2 years ago

Yes which is why I couldnt continue reading Shao Nian Ge Xing lol, but Peerless Martial Spirit is worse, the author really doesnt like the main character.
I havent read a Chinese novel where the author can decently split the amount of content between the multiple main characters, most just have the main character with the most content, the rest is a few paragraphs every 10 to 50 chapters later, the only authors I have seen able to do so are ones from the 1940s-1960s like Jing Yong who wrote the Condor series, another work of his, Demi Gods and Demons does it nicely with 3 main characters, but these days webnovels tend to write quick, earn money quick and be done with it
There are some openly BL and openly gay novels, Mo Dao Zu Shi was made into a live action which had rave reviews. as was Eternal Love but they removed all BL and gay relationships, you get a hint of BL but it was so little that you can barely feel it is there.

OfficialDrixMalone • 2 years ago

You have to get outside the box and try new things, multi-mc's can be dope. I like it much more than 1 mc that we know is the mc and will survive smh. That's lame and pointless, I want to be tricked and it be mysterious where I have to guess and more intrigued.

But what's your definition of "misogynistic" then??

Youtube Addict • 2 years ago

One manā€™s meat is another manā€™s poison. Youā€™re free to like whatever style or genre and so am I. That doesnā€™t mean that Iā€™m cooped up in a box!

Btw, I do watch multi-MCs series especially some Japanese animes and CSI-type shows. But somehow I cannot get into a multi-MCs Chinese donghua or drama. They are too distracting and often compromised on good characters development.

As for your last question, I believe Iā€™ve replied your previous comment. So Iā€™d appreciate if you stop picking on me.

OfficialDrixMalone • 2 years ago

Maybe the Chinese aren't executing it properly then, hopefully you find more Multi MC's in donghua that you like and I see you in more donghua's.

But I wasn't trying to pick on you if that's how you're really feeling, with text you can't always show and convey your intentions properly (for the most part), so don't take it to the heart. I apologize if you felt targeted, most of the time I'm not serious and honestly forget shortly after what I even said until I end up randomly looking at my notifications, so don't take it serious, all fun and games here.

vio • 2 years ago

I thought Mo Dao Zu Shi was a different donghua/anime when I first googled it. I thought it was something I watched before where the MC lost his eyesight in the first episode due to a fight but it wasnt the same one.

It's only fair there are more reverse harems around as most of the Chinese donghua's I've seen its always the usual harems with one guy and lots of girls.

Dase • 2 years ago

Mo Dao Zu Shi's storyline was great, and I was surprised that the live action was actually very decent although the BL scenes were toned down much more than the donghua

It could donghuas have less female audiences, although there's quite a number of otome games. even the creators of Genshin Impact and Honkai made an otome game lol But i stay away from gacha games, with my need for perfect collection I would probably spend all my income lol

vio • 2 years ago

I can understand that about gacha games, I love playing Japanese anime mmo's and spent more than I should have on them because of systems in the game similar to gacha's.

Dase • 2 years ago

I have friends who spent half their income on Genshin impact every 3 weeks, it became so serious that they are undergoing counseling for gambling addiction, but you got to love their excuses, "at least we are not going to the casino or brothels"

Yeah right, but the money isnt going back to your car or house repayments, it isnt going to that 20,000 credit card you owe *shake my head*

vio • 2 years ago

I personally dont like counselling, I can understand why some people need to do it but when they make written and taped records of your sessions, its hard to know how many other people see/hear that. I prefer keeping certain subjects to myself and resolving them instead of sharing them.

Also, just watched Yong Sheng.... lol@KFC Vs Dragon is all I will say. The subs werent funny this week, in fact they were a bit distasteful as when he was saying he was a naĆÆve person for believing in others, the translation was I'm a woman.

Dase • 2 years ago

Ahh Yan appears, Yan is the manifestation of the Yellow Spring Diagram, this is the beginning of Fang Han getting stronger lol

Hmm they made a lot of changes as well, sister Mo is dead, and Hongyi kills that greedy "friend" Liu Kang

She tells Fang Han that they are only poisoned and not in any serious danger, but if he helps them there will be too many questions waiting for him, she tells him even though she is his confidante (it also means partner, close friend, someone who knows you well, sometimes used as your wife or husband, but in this case there is no romantic suggestion) she will not tell anyone else but the rest will, Fang Han finds it hard not to save people from their own sect
She kills Liu Kang after he reveals that he was spying on them for Yuan Jiankong

Also 妇äŗŗ之仁 if translated literally would be "a woman's benevolence"
In ancient China, it is one of a woman's virtues to be benevolent or kind, so the image of a benevolent woman is highly respected and regarded and so being compared with a "woman's benevolence" is really saying a person's kindness is a good thing. However in this instance Hongyi was saying a person with the benevolence of a woman will bring about disaster, and which Fang Han agrees and repeats what she said I guess they translated it wrong "I am a woman" lol It should probably be "I didnt realise that my actions would bring disaster upon myself since because of my overly benevolence like a woman" something like that lol But I would have removed the references to woman and just had kindness or benevolence, since that is meaning being conveyed to the viewer

Meh, I really hope they make changes and marry Hongyi off to Fang Han :)

vio • 2 years ago

Do you think they made those changes to make the story more short? It's a lot of content to get through just for 12 episodes per season. Plus there is no guarantee that there will be follow up seasons in the future too.

Someone should have told the madam of the house in Shen Yi Jiu Xiaojie about the benevolence of a woman :P
Also, wouldnt it be to much text considering he only said a few words for that to come across so instead of "I am a woman" it'd be something like "I am benevolent like a woman".

Dase • 2 years ago

That and also because the changes doesnt affect the overall story, the characters they killed off is never appears again after a few more chapters, and even if they do, they serve a very minor role and will die anyway
While there's no guarantee for a season 2, given that it isnt a 10 minute episode series, it has a higher chance of having another season, mind you Fanren season 2 can out unannounced, well nothing I saw hinted at a season 2, I could have missed it lol

Ahh Madam Jun is comes from a well off family and thinks she is the centre of the world, there's no hope for her lol

Yeah, it would be too much text lol, a simple "I have too much benevolent like a woman" should suffice, I was trying to convey the context of what was being said lol, will be interesting to see what the good subbers come up with

Shan He Jian Xin, where the MC loses eyesight

vio • 2 years ago

ty for the reminder, that was the one I remembered watching just couldnt think of the title.

Dase • 2 years ago

If I remember correctly the work's author specialises in BL novels lol

vio • 2 years ago

thats a name for those who enjoy BL to write down for future reference then :P

Well... Season 2 of Shanhe Jian Xin is currently in development for those interesting :P
No other works of his is currently being developed into donghua, any fanmade donghua doesnt count
